Place: Olde Harbour Inn (rm 406)

History:

Olde Harbour Inn is located on the Savannah River between River Street and Factors Walk. The original building that sat on the property was built in 1812, according to the inn’s Web site. The structure burned several times, and in 1892, a “swift and severely damaging blaze caused nearly complete destruction”.

The building, which is now Olde Harbour Inn, was reconstructed with more than 730,000 bricks – all flame resistant.

Through the years, the building was home to the Standard Oil Company and the Alexander Brothers Company, a blue jeans and overall factory. The entire building was renovated in 1985, and Olde Harbour Inn opened in 1987.

 

Reported Activity:

The story behind Hank isn’t definite. Sherry Hughes worked as the front desk receptionist at the inn from 1995 to 1997. She said Hank has been around almost since the beginning of Olde Harbour Inn. “What we understand is that during one of the fires that this building had been through, there had been a worker who perished,” Hughes said.

Olde Harbour employees don’t know the specifics about the worker, so they named the ghost Hank.

Through the years, the stories of Hank have spread. Valerie Freeman Clark, the innkeeper, says people call specifically asking about spirits in the hotel. She recommends Room 406, the room Hank most often haunts .Rooms 308, 309 also have reported activity.

Guests have reported smelling cigar smoke when no smokers were present, experiencing things moving around, coins dropping on the floor, and other spooky shenanigans. Guests have seen their deadbolt turning when there was nobody there. The Cook has reported Hank is always turning off toasters or the coffee pot and also likes to rearrange the table setting.

Our Investigation:

Here’s a quick update. We stayed the night and didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary, however we will be reviewing our Audio and Video when we return home. We’ll update this post afterwards.
