Eliza Thompson House – Savannah, GA

The Eliza Thompson House was built in 1847 for Joseph and Eliza Thompson and their seven children, and was the first house built on Jones Street in Savannah, GA. After Joseph’s death in 1855, Eliza raised the children alone in the home. Today, the historic home is a boutique hotel, and it is also rumored to be haunted.  

Construction and early history: The house was constructed in 1847 as a private residence for the Thompson family. Joseph Thompson was a cotton dealer. 

Tragedy:  In 1855, Joseph Thompson was killed by a horse kick, leaving Eliza a widow with seven children to raise. 

Modern day: The building is now one of the oldest inns in Savannah and is a popular historic hotel, often recognized for its romantic atmosphere.  Haunted reputation: Due to its long history, the house is often featured on ghost tours and is said to be haunted, with specific reports of a Confederate soldier in room 132.
